At the end of 2022, shortly before Google decided to lay off 12,000 employees (6% of the total), the company rewarded Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, with a salary of $226 million, one of the highest in the current technology landscape. This was revealed by the latest information published by Reuters, where they explained that the salary of the company's main leader exceeds the average salary of a Google employee by 800 times.

According to information provided by the company, a large part of the compensation Pichai received (about $218 million) refers to the value of the shares. Another $2 million is for Pichai's annual salary (which was unchanged between 2020 and 2022) and includes $6 million earmarked for the CEO's personal security.

The news appears amid a change in the strategy implemented by Google, through which it aspires to save costs within the company by closing departments such as those responsible for Stadia or dismissing thousands of employees worldwide. Recently, some employees of the company decided to demonstrate against the actions taken by the company.

Google has taken other cost-saving measures in recent months, including eliminating robots that clean cafeterias and reducing the frequency of employee computer replacements. Google's chief financial officer, Ruth Porat, also confirmed that the use of equipment and services such as fitness classes, staplers, or duct tape would be limited.

Google recently recorded a slight increase in revenue obtained during the first quarter of 2023, increasing from $68.100 billion to $69.790 billion.
