The announcement was made during a presentation by Warner Bros. Discovery to the press and investors this Wednesday, April 12. The company also took the opportunity to unveil the merger of HBO Max and Discovery + into a new service called Max. He will be the broadcaster of the Harry Potter series.
Here we go again for almost a decade
For several days, specialized media reported that a Harry Potter series was indeed in the small papers of HBO Max. We now have confirmation, and fans of the franchise will no doubt be delighted. This new work should immerse them in the world of wizards for almost a decade, allowing them to detail the work of J.K. Rowling on the screen in much more in-depth than the eight feature films released between 2001 and 2011.
Each season of the series will be based on one of the seven books with an entirely renewed cast. It will be produced by Max in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television. J.K. Rowling will also be involved in the project as an executive producer alongside Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts. "Max's commitment to maintaining the integrity of my books is important to me, and I look forward to participating in this new adaptation that will allow for a degree of depth and detail that only a long-running television series can provide," enthused the British author.
“We are thrilled to give the public the opportunity to experience Hogwarts in a whole new way. Harry Potter is a cultural phenomenon and there's no doubt that the wizarding world sparks lasting love,” said Casey Bloys, CEO of HBO & Max Content.
The timeless Harry Potter franchise
With this thundering announcement and the merger of HBO Max and Discovery+, Warner Bros. Discovery hopes to come and compete with the streaming leaders, Netflix and Disney+.
It must be said that the potential of this series is enormous. Each of the books has been a bestseller, while the eight films have grossed over $7.7 billion at the global box office. 26 years after the release of the first work, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, the enthusiasm of the fans does not tarnish, proof of this is the immense success of the game Hogwarts Legacy, released last February.
